PASTOR GLEN'S BLOG
January 17, 2018
How have you been tempted to be unfaithful in your relationship with God. Jesus declared in his famous sermon on the Mount, to “seek first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things will be added to you.” We are to seek God first! And, acknowledge that all our blessings are from Him and from Him alone.
The basic message of Hosea 2, as we discovered on Sunday, is that there are consequences to spiritual unfaithfulness, including punishment from God. As one pastor suggested, “God punishes, not because He delights to do so, but because He desires that we might repent of our unfaithfulness and idolatry (of worshipping anything or anyone other than the One True God) and return to the marriage relationship with Him.”
God is calling us to turn away from our unfaithfulness and idolatry and return to Him. Just as Gomer had to remove the cosmetics and jewelry, God calls us to remove those relationships, those hobbies, those actions, whatever it is, that leads us to chase after other lovers/gods. We are called to get rid of the things with which we have tried to replace God – whatever they are – and come back to the Lord who alone offers peace and contentment.
As Hosea makes clear, if the desires of our heart don’t line up with the Word of God, they will disappoint us whether or not they materialize. Instead of following after anything or anyone besides the Lord, seek God’s kingdom and see how He provides according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus!
Asaph & Lin Din
Asaph is an ordained Teaching Elder in the EPC. He is discipling young men through sports clubs (cricket). His prayer is for a strong indigenous church that will be a light in a dark place. Lynn is homeschooling their daughters as well as consulting with several Christian hospitals in the area of public health outreach.
With Lynn’s work with MBF and the Sialkot Christian Hospital, a major initiative has been completed last month. In spite of having three medical colleges in Sialkot, the Christian hospital in Sialkot has the only functioning medical waste incinerator in this major city. Lynn designed and implemented the plans through a local contractor. Their prayer is that these Presbyterian hospitals will once again be on the cutting edge of medicine. Please pray as the contractor works to complete work on another incinerator at Taxilla Christian Hospital, Taxilla (near the capital).
Last month there was an attack on a church service in Quetta. Security has been hightented for churches accross the country, please pray for safety of churches/believers as well as the peace of Christ to comfort.
Last Fall, the Dins co-led a trip to the UK that was designed to give exposure to the PMA churches to the people of Pakistan who reside in the UK. This was the first trip by a PMA delegation to the mission field which they have adopted (the Punjabi people group). Praise God for this milestone for the Presbytery (PMA).
