PASTOR GLEN'S BLOG
May 10, 2018
Over the last several weeks, we have been focusing on hearing from God. One of the ways God speaks to us according to Pastor Mark Batterson is through desires. This week we will be thinking about our desires.
What do you desire? What are your dreams? Down deep, past the daily surface desires, what do you really want? What is your passion that makes life worth living for you?
Most of us are passionate about something. Alan Hasson in an article, 6 Most Popular Passions I've Noticed People suggests – music, food, gardening, animals, travel. And, yes, some of those may be of interest to us. But what about you? Does your faith in Jesus Christ make any difference in determining your dreams and desires?
A Church rooted in the Living Lord is a church that encourages people to move beyond their comfort zones and invest themselves in face-to-face, person-to-person, hands-on kinds of ministries. And, as a pastor, one of my desires is to be part of a church that is motivated by outward focused dreams . . . dreams of seeing people in our community discover the life-changing joy of knowing God.
We have been seduced into believing happiness is related to focusing on self rather than others, many of us have missed the joy that comes from sharing Christ's love. G.K. Chesterton's indictment against Christians is so true:
Christianity has not been tried and found wanting.
It has been found difficult and left untried.
It is my prayer that our desires, our passions will be rooted in the Lord Jesus Christ . . . and living out our vision of “being and making disciples of Jesus Christ!
