This Week at HOPE!

March 27, 2019

Last year, we focused as a congregation on hearing from God.  We utilized Pastor Mark Batterson’s book, Whisper: How to Hear the Voice of God.  As we discovered, there are many ways we hear from God; however, primarily we hear God’s voice through His Word recorded in the 66 canonical books of the Bible.

One of the principles we discovered in our study was that God doesn’t always appear to us with a BIG display.  God reveals himself by letting us know He’s right here.  But, we have to be quiet enough to hear Him.  As we learn in the dramatic story of God speaking to Elijah outside of a cave (1 Kings 19), God’s power was not in the wind, the earthquake, or the fire.  His power was in His word – the still, small voice of God.

The quiet whisper of God was so holy that Elijah had to wrap his face in a cloak.  It was so powerful that it changed his entire focus.  Many of us need to rediscover God through the pages of his written Word, where He speaks with a gentle and quiet voice.

As a congregation, we have corporately listened for God’s voice for over a year about our next steps.  At our congregational meeting last Sunday, we responded to God’s whisper to move our worship location to Kate Collins Middle School, as well as to pursue a growth strategy, including allocation of extra monies for two significant staff additions.  It now behooves us to continue to be attentive to God’s whisper as we make this significant change in our life together.  And, as God has already blessed us (amazingly!), may He continue to use us to be a blessing in our community and beyond!  I stand on tiptoe to see what God has in store for us in this exciting season!!

THIS SUNDAY-  This Sunday, Pastor Glen’s message will be, “What’s in Your Eye?,” based upon Matthew 7:3-5.   Please read the text prior to the service. Nursery care and elementary classes are provided in our regular rooms on the Chapel floor during the worship service this Sunday.

Adult Sunday School class - Join us, in our study of the letters to the Corinthians, in the Chapel on the Sunday School floor, immediately following the service. We are now studying I Corinthians 12-14 for an in depth study of the gifts of the Holy Spirit as they relate to God’s people individually and the church today.  Come join the discussion.

Children’s Ministry - We especially need volunteers to help in the nursery on Easter Sunday, April 21. As of now, we do not have enough to offer a nursery and an elementary class. We usually have more visitors on this holiday so it’s very important that we be prepared. Members are encouraged to contact Kelly King if you are willing to serve in this way: or (540) 221-1141.
