PASTOR GLEN'S BLOG
April 17, 2019
Each day as Paul Harvey used to sign on to his radio broadcast he would say, “You know what the news is. In a minute, you’re going to hear ‘the rest of the story.’”
The fact that Jesus Christ has gone to the cross in order to pay the debt for our sins is great news! The fact that Jesus Christ died and was buried in a grave, but rose three days later is wonderful news! Because of what Jesus Christ has done, all people, from all nations, of every race, every color, and every social stratum may be forgiven and brought into a right relationship with God through Jesus Christ – with the hope of eternal life in heaven. That’s the news. As a matter of fact, the Bible calls it Good News. So now that you know what the news is, what is “the rest of the story?
The rest of the story has to do with what we (you and me and us together) are going to do with this Good News. Rick Warren wrote in his book, The Purpose Driven Church, “Strong churches are built on purpose! The starting point for every church should be the question, ‘Why do we exist?’”
Now that we know what the Good News is, what are we going to do with it? What is our purpose as part of God’s Church? What difference do we want to make . . . in our families, in our workplaces, in our social gatherings, in our community locally and globally? It is my prayer that as we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ this Easter that we will want to take this GOOD NEWS and share it with excitement and joy . . . not pushing our faith on anyone (as I shared in my recent message regarding pigs and pearls) but joyfully proclaiming the good news with urgency and enthusiasm!!
Advancing Native Missions
I believe Jesus calls people to lifelong discipleship. That’s why it’s so significant that our native partners aren’t simply passing through on short-term assignments. They are building sustainable discipleship programs based in local, native-led churches.
These gospel workers are in it for the long haul, so when a new believer receives a Bible from them, they also receive an invitation to join a local body of Christ that speaks their language.
Isn’t that wonderful?
Just $5 provides this invaluable resource to help new believers grow for years and years after they begin following Jesus.
Thank you for your partnership in the gospel!
'Til all hear,
Oliver L. Asher
