This Week at HOPE!

July 24, 2019

One part of our vision as a congregation is to GROW in faith!! We read in Colossians 1:28, “Him [Jesus Christ] we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we present everyone mature in Christ.” An effective presentation of the Gospel always includes both warning and teaching. The warning is that without Christ, people are lost and headed to the agony of hell. The teaching is that salvation is available only by grace through faith in Christ.

The ultimate goal of proclaiming Jesus Christ through admonishing and teaching is so that we can “present everyone mature in Christ.” Paul desperately wanted everyone to become mature or complete in Christ. The word mature or perfect means “full grown, or spiritually mature.” Our job as a church is not just to admonish, or even to teach. We do those things in order to create spiritually mature Christ-followers. We should all be in the process of growth, of becoming more like Jesus every day.

It is our prayer that more and more people will connect with a Life Group, Bible Study, Discipleship Triad, in order to grow as a follower of Christ. The vertical purpose of such groups is to assist one another in knowing, loving, and serving God at a deeper level. The horizontal purpose of such groups is to develop authentic friendships that speak grace and truth to one another and support one another.

One way to start this process is by signing up for a Salt Shakers group. These groups are an informal way to connect with other friends of Hope Community Church for fun, food, and fellowship on a monthly or bi-monthly basis.

My prayer is that more people will be engaged with at least one such group, which supports our spiritual growth! If you are interested in being part of such a group, please contact me or Larry Roberts. If you are interested in being part of a Salt Shakers group, please contact Cindy Roberts. May God continue to grow us deeper in our faith!!
