PASTOR GLEN'S BLOG
August 13, 2019
It is hard to believe that in just a few short days, we will be making our move to meeting at Kate Collins Middle School. I trust you are as excited as I am for this move. However, this will be a significant change for all of us. And, sometimes, even anticipated and positive change can be hard.
As we move forward, it is my prayer that we will always keep in mind our reason for existing . . . our vision as a congregation . . . “to be and to make disciples of Jesus Christ, to: GLORIFY God through dynamic worship, GROW in faith, and GO serve God and neighbor!”
We read in 2 Corinthians 5:14-15: “For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.”
Jesus understood the purpose of His ministry. In Luke 19:10 Jesus said, “The Son of Man came to seek out and save the lost,” and He challenges us to do the same. However, we face two big obstacles – FEAR and APATHY. If we believe that Jesus is the only way that we can escape the penalty of death. If we believe that Jesus really is the Way, the Truth, and the Life and that no one can come to the Father but through Him – aren’t we compelled to do everything we can to share the Good News with as many people as possible?
Friends, that is why we exist! And, it is my prayer that in our next chapter of life together, as we move to a new venue for corporate worship, we will do everything we can to share the love of Jesus Christ with our neighbors near and far!
One of the reasons I am so excited to be a part of Saturate Augusta is the opportunity to begin praying for our neighbors and reaching out to them with the Gospel. If you have not signed up yet for Bless Every Home, please do so at blesseveryhome.com.
May God use us mightily, as we make this move to Kate Collins, but especially that we will even more radically live out our vision!!
Kate Collins Middle School
We are collecting food again for the students at KCMS. There will be a box each Sunday for you to bring items…
THIS SUNDAY - Join us for worship at 9:30am in our new location at Kate Collins Middle School! Pastor Glen’s message will be, “Salvation on Display,” based upon Exodus 11:1-12:36. Please read the text prior to the service. Nursery care and elementary classes are provided during the 9:30am worship service. Follow the signs!
Adult Sunday School class - You are invited to come join our adult Bible study class immediately following worship. We are studying the book of Nehemiah using the book “Nehemiah,” by Dr. Stephen Davey, to help us explore this beautiful story of God providing leadership for His people, especially in rebuilding the wall around Jerusalem, and calling them back into relationship with Him. Come join us, we have extra books available.
Hospitality Committee - We need you! We will have a table specifically designed to greet visitors and talk about how to get connected to the Hope Community Church family! We will have information on Salt Shakers, small groups, men's Bible study, upcoming events etc. We are organizing a nice gift as well to be given to first time guests. We are also looking for individuals to not only "man" the table, but who also will be willing to assist with cookie and coffee set-up. The more smiling faces we have, the smaller the commitment will be. Please see Sarah Todd Severs or Cindy Roberts for additional information. A sign-up sheet will be on the hospitality table this coming Sunday! If you would like to help organize future events such as picnics, women's gatherings (a fall tea is being planned), church outings, special events, harvest parties, holiday gatherings, children's activities, see Cindy Roberts, Kelly King or Susie Patterson! Let's GO and make disciples of Jesus Christ!
New Prayer Group - The new small group focused on prayers for Hope Community Church and on individual needs as they are brought to us, utilizing the gifts of the Holy Spirit, meets on Tuesday evening at 7 PM. Any questions should be directed to Pat Patterson.
Saturate Augusta - Please pray for the people in Augusta County who will hear the gospel and for those who will go out to share! On September 7, we will participate in this mission to our community. Please see the info table at church to sign up to be part of a Saturate Augusta team. You can find info at: saturatetheworld.com.
Bless Every Home - As we prepare for Saturate Augusta, we invite you all to visit blesseveryhome.com and sign up to pray for those we will be reaching with the gospel!
Church Picnic - Invite family and friends to join us for our Fall picnic at Cindy & Larry Roberts’ house on Sunday, August 25, just after our worship service. We’ll have yard games for children, music and good fellowship! The church will provide chicken and homemade ham rolls. Please sign up on the church info table (or email email@example.com), to bring a side dish, salad or dessert. Please bring lawn chairs as well.
